Sometimes, Retirement Isn’t What You Expect

Sometimes, Retirement Isn’t What You Expect

Finally, I retired. I had lots of travel plans that went awry. First, when I got a massage that went very wrong and ended with me having back surgery. Then, a routine visit to a cardiologist ended with me getting stints. Yep, not what I expected at all.

Needless to say, I haven’t gone to live overseas yet.

But, I still traveled some. I made a cousin’s trip to Galveston, Texas. We had a blast and one of my cousin’s got propositioned by a much younger guy. Too funny!

I traveled, solo, about 5,000 miles in 30 days and saw a lot of this beautiful country.

I took my great-nephew to a wolf sanctuary, which was a Christmas gift.

Now I am embarking on a train trip. First, Jackson to Chicago then Chicago to Everette, Washington.

I’ve picked up my writing again and joined an extremely helpful writer’s group.

I have made a point of reconnecting with cousins for visits other than funerals.

I say all this to illustrate that although my retirement plans to live abroad have not materialized yet, I’ve had a great time so far.

Well, health issues aside, I’ve had a great time. So, make those plans. They may not take the turn you expect, but the turn may lead to other kinds of adventures and some pretty great memories.
